If you have the Amex Platinum card, you may already know that it includes up to $300 per year in credits at Lululemon—broken into $75 per quarter. If you didn’t know that, you may want to review all your Platinum benefits to make sure you’re not leaving money behind!

But what many cardholders don’t realize is: you can stretch that even further by stacking with Rakuten.

Here’s exactly how it works and how to maximize every dollar.

Step 1: Enroll in the Benefit

Before your Lululemon purchases will trigger the statement credit, you need to activate the offer:

  • Log in to your American Express account via desktop or the mobile app.
  • Go to “Rewards & Benefits” and scroll down to click “View All Benefits”.
  • Find the Lululemon Credit and click “Enroll”.

Once enrolled, you’re eligible to receive up to $75 per quarter (Jan–Mar, Apr–Jun, Jul–Sep, Oct–Dec) in statement credits when you make purchases at lululemon.com or U.S. stores.

Step 2: Sign up for Rakuten

  • Use this Rakuten referral link to get 5,000 bonus Amex points after your first $50 purchase.
  • If you already have Rakuten, you can skip this step as you cannot earn additional bonus points.

Step 3: Change your Payout Method to Points

  • Rakuten normally pays out in cashback, so if you want to get points instead, you have 2 options:
    • You can link your Amex account to earn Amex points (Tutorial)
    • You can link your Bilt account to earn Bilt points (Tutorial)

Step 4: Shop Lululemon via Rakuten

  • Open the Rakuten app and search for “Lululemon.”
  • The offers change daily, so you’ll want to wait for 10-15x points per dollar. If you have already connected your Amex or Bilt account and are still seeing “cash back” – don’t worry! It’s the same thing. 10% cash back means 10x points per dollar!
  • Once you see that offer, click through Rakuten to be redirected to Lululemon, and add ~$75 worth of items to your cart.

Step 4: Check out with your Amex Platinum

  • You’ll receive a $75 statement credit from Amex, effectively wiping out the charge.
  • But you’ll STILL get:
    • 5,000 bonus points from Rakuten for signing up
    • 10x-15x Rakuten points per dollar on your Lululemon purchase (another 750-1,125 points!)

Why This Hack Works

You’re earning points on a purchase you don’t technically pay for — because Amex refunds you. And since Rakuten converts your cash back into flexible Amex or Bilt points, you’re getting a highly valuable currency that can be used for luxury travel redemptions.
