One of the most underused strategies in travel hacking is leveraging status matches and challenges to carry elite benefits across airlines — sometimes instantly.
Below is a breakdown of the major airline programs currently offering status matches or challenges in 2026.
Click into each airline to see how it works, who qualifies, and what’s required to keep the status.
United Airlines — Premier Status Match Challenge
United offers a structured status match challenge for elite members of competing programs. Once approved, you’ll need to take an activating United flight before the clock starts.
After activation, you’ll have a fixed window to earn Premier Qualifying Flights (PQFs) and Premier Qualifying Points (PQPs) to keep your matched status.
This is a strong option if United or Star Alliance fits your travel patterns, but United limits how often you can participate.
There is also a FoundersCard-exclusive fast track that allows members to earn Premier Silver with just one qualifying flight.

Delta Air Lines — Medallion Status Match
Delta allows elite members from many domestic and international programs to match up to Platinum Medallion status.
Once approved, you’ll receive complimentary Medallion status for a short trial period. To extend it, you’ll need to meet spending requirements measured in Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs).
Timing matters here — completing a challenge in 2026 can extend status well into 2028.
American Airlines — Instant Status Pass
American offers one of the most flexible programs, called Instant Status Pass. If you hold elite status with select U.S. airlines, you can unlock temporary AAdvantage status immediately.
The program runs in 3 phases, each lasting 4 months. You keep your status by earning a set number of Loyalty Points during each phase through flights, partners, or eligible credit card spend.
If completed successfully, your status can carry through the next membership year.
Alaska Airlines — Atmos Rewards Status Match
Alaska Airlines offers status matches into its Atmos Rewards program from several major airlines. Approved members receive temporary status and must earn base points on Alaska- or Hawaiian-operated flights to retain it.
This is especially useful for West Coast flyers or anyone who values Alaska’s strong partner network.
JetBlue — Mosaic Status Match
JetBlue allows elite members from several airline programs to match into Mosaic tiers. Once approved, you’ll receive Mosaic benefits for a short promotional period.
To extend status, you’ll need to earn a set number of Tiles during the challenge window. Higher Mosaic tiers require more activity but unlock stronger perks.
Virgin Atlantic — Flying Club Status Match
Virgin Atlantic offers one of the few publicly available international airline status matches. Depending on your current elite tier, you may qualify for Silver or Gold status.
Some tiers require a future paid flight to be booked to qualify. Once matched, status is valid for 12 months with clear requalification targets.
Important Things to Know Before You Apply
- Status matches usually require proof of earned elite status, not complimentary or promotional tiers.
- Many programs restrict how often you can match, sometimes once per lifetime.
- Most challenges require actual flying or spending with the new airline to keep benefits.
- Timing your match around upcoming travel is key to getting real value.
