Amex Platinum Saks Credit: One More Chance To Stack Before It’s Gone Forever

The Amex Platinum Saks credit gives you $100 per year in free Saks Fifth Avenue shopping, split into two $50 credits. But that’s ending. American Express has confirmed that starting July 1, 2026, the Shop Saks credit will be removed from the U.S. Consumer Platinum Card for both new and existing cardholders. You still have until June 30, 2026 to use your remaining $50 credit for the first half of the year, and given Saks’ ongoing bankruptcy struggles, sooner is better than later. Here’s how the credit works, how to activate it, what to buy with it, and how to stack it with Rakuten for bonus points on the same purchase before it’s gone for good.

What Is the Amex Platinum Saks Credit?

It’s a statement credit on the Amex Platinum Card that gives you $50 every six months to spend at Saks Fifth Avenue. The two windows are:

  • January through June: $50
  • July through December: $50

Starting July 1, 2026, this benefit goes away entirely. That means the January through June window is your last chance to use it. If you don’t use the $50 before June 30, it’s gone. The credit triggers automatically on any Saks purchase amount. Spend $30, get $30 back. Spend $50 or more, get $50 back. There’s no minimum and you don’t need to hit exactly $50.

What’s Replacing the Saks Credit?

Amex says it plans to introduce “several new and exclusive Amex Offers for Platinum Card Members at top retailers and brands” on July 1, 2026. Details are still TBD. The key difference is that Amex Offers are rotating, targeted promotions rather than a guaranteed annual credit. Whether they’ll match the $100 per year in value remains to be seen, but it’s hard to view Amex Offers as a one-for-one replacement for a defined benefit.

How to Activate the Amex Platinum Saks Credit

You need to enroll once in your Amex account before the credit will work.

  1. Log into your Amex account (app or website)
  2. Go to Rewards & Benefits
  3. Scroll to the Shopping section
  4. Find the Saks Fifth Avenue credit and click Enroll

You only need to do this once. After you’re enrolled, the credit kicks in automatically every time you make a qualifying Saks purchase with your Platinum card.

Where Can You Use the Saks Credit?

The credit works at:

  • Saks.com (online)
  • Saks Fifth Avenue stores (in person)

It does NOT work at Saks OFF 5TH. This is the most common mistake people make. OFF 5TH is a separate brand and purchases there won’t trigger the credit. Make sure you’re shopping at the full Saks Fifth Avenue, not the outlet.

What to Buy with the Amex Platinum Saks Credit

$50 doesn’t go far at Saks if you’re looking at clothing or designer accessories. But there are several categories where $50 gets you something genuinely useful.

Beauty and Skincare

This is the sweet spot. Saks carries premium skincare and beauty brands, and $50 covers a full-size product from a big chunk of them. Think moisturizers, serums, cleansers, or lip products from brands like Charlotte Tilbury, for example. If you have a go-to skincare product, check if Saks carries it and let the credit cover your restock.

Candles

Le Labo and Diptyque candles at Saks are a personal favorite use of this credit. These run right around the $50-$80 range, which means the credit covers most or all of it. These also make great gifts if you don’t need one for yourself.

Fragrance

Travel-size fragrances and discovery sets from brands like Tom Ford, Maison Margiela, and Le Labo often fall in the $30-$60 range. The credit can cover an entire bottle or get you close on a full-size.

Small Gifts

If you don’t need anything for yourself, the Saks credit is perfect for picking up a gift you’d buy anyway. Candles, beauty sets, small leather goods, or home accessories all work. You’re spending $0 out of pocket on a gift that looks like you spent $50+.

Home Goods

Saks has a curated home section with items like throw pillows, barware, picture frames, and decorative objects. Not everything is over $50, and the credit makes browsing this section feel guilt-free.

How to Stack the Saks Credit with Rakuten

Just like the Lululemon credit, you can stack the Saks credit with Rakuten for bonus points on the same purchase.

  1. Go to Rakuten and search for Saks Fifth Avenue (or sign up here if you don’t have an account yet. You’ll get 5,000 bonus points after your first $50 purchase – even if Amex is reimbursing you!)
  2. Click through to Saks.com via the Rakuten link
  3. Shop and pay with your Amex Platinum
  4. You’ll get the $50 Saks statement credit AND the Rakuten cashback on the same purchase

If you have Rakuten set to pay out as Amex Membership Rewards or Bilt points, you’re earning transferable travel points on a purchase that Amex is reimbursing you for. Free points on free shopping. We track live Rakuten rates for Saks and other stores on our Points Stacker Tool.

When Does the Amex Platinum Saks Credit Reset?

The credit resets twice per year:

  • June 30: First-half credit expires
  • December 31: Second-half credit expires

Set a calendar reminder for mid-June and mid-December so you don’t forget. The most common way people waste this credit is simply not using it before the window closes.

Does the Amex Platinum Saks Credit Work on Gift Cards?

This is one of the most asked questions about this credit, and the answer is: maybe.

Many cardholders have reported that buying physical Saks gift cards in-store at a Saks Fifth Avenue location does trigger the credit. Online gift card purchases, however, typically do not.

Amex doesn’t officially endorse this, and there’s no guarantee it will work every time. Some people have had success consistently, others have had mixed results. If you go this route, buy a physical gift card at a Saks Fifth Avenue register and pay with your Platinum card. Check your statement a few days later to see if the credit posted.

This can be useful if you don’t want anything right now but don’t want to waste the credit before the window closes. A $50 gift card effectively lets you bank the credit for a future purchase.

That said, do this at your own risk. If the credit doesn’t post, you’re stuck with a $50 Saks gift card, which isn’t the worst thing in the world, but it’s not guaranteed free money either.

Is the Amex Platinum Saks Credit Worth It?

On its own, $100/year isn’t going to justify the Amex Platinum’s annual fee. But it’s one of many perks that stack together to offset the cost. If you’d buy skincare, candles, or gifts at Saks anyway, this is $100 you don’t have to spend. If Saks isn’t your thing, treat it as a twice-yearly free gift for someone else. The Saks credit is one of over $3,000 in annual credits on the Amex Platinum. For the full breakdown of every perk and how to maximize them, check out our complete Amex Platinum perks guide.
