How to Fly Emirates Business Class Cheap: I Booked 2 Seats for $494

I just booked two round-trip Emirates business class tickets from New York (JFK) to Milan (MXP) for a total of $494.26 out of pocket.

The cash price for those same seats is $7,748.

This isn’t clickbait. This is what happens when you know how to fly Emirates business class cheap using the right combination of points, partner programs, and transfer bonuses. And I’m going to walk you through exactly how I did it.

Why Emirates Business Class JFK–Milan Is a Sweet Spot

Emirates operates a fifth freedom route between New York JFK and Milan MXP. If you’re not familiar with that term — it basically means Emirates flies between two cities that aren’t in the UAE, which is unusual and creates some incredible booking opportunities.

This route is served by an Airbus A380, which means you get Emirates’ best business class product: lie-flat seats, direct aisle access, the onboard lounge, and the full premium experience. A lot of people don’t even know this flight exists, which is part of what makes it such a sweet spot for award bookings.

The Different Ways to Book This Flight With Points

There are a few ways to book Emirates business class with points. But they are not created equal — not even close. In this post, I will be comparing booking directly with Emirates vs how I actually booked it.

Option 1: Book Directly Through Emirates Skywards

You can use Emirates Skywards miles to book this route. The cost is about 87,000 miles each way per person. For two people round trip, that’s 348,000 miles. And here’s the part that stings the most: Emirates charges roughly $1,000 per person in taxes and fees on round-trip award tickets.

So your total: 348,000 miles + ~$2,000 in fees.

That’s a lot of miles AND a lot of cash on top.

Option 2: Book Through JAL Mileage Bank (What I Did)

This is where it gets good.

Japan Airlines (JAL) Mileage Bank prices Emirates business class at just 85,000 miles per person round trip on this route. For two people, that’s 170,000 JAL miles total.

And the icing on the caks is that the taxes and fees through JAL are dramatically lower. My total out-of-pocket for two people, round trip, in Emirates business class: $494.26.

Compare that to the ~$2,000 you’d pay booking the same flights through Emirates directly for the same exact experience.

So… How To Fly Emirates Business Class Cheap?

Here’s the step-by-step if you want to replicate this right now while the bonus is still active:

Step 1: Open a JAL Mileage Bank account. It’s free and takes five minutes on JAL’s website. You’ll need this to hold your miles and make the booking. Normally, you need to wait 60 days to be able to book award flights on a new account, but if you transfer points into it, that should drop to only 7 days.

Step 2: Pick your transfer path. JAL is one of the hardest airline currencies to earn because Chase, Amex, and Citi don’t transfer to it. Your three best options are Bilt, Capital One, and Rove:

Rove transfers 1:1 and you earn miles on everyday purchases including non-refundable hotel stays at 5-50x miles per dollar. Rove points stack with credit card rewards and cash back apps, so you’re not choosing between them. Bilt transfers 1:1 with no haircut, and Rent Day (the 1st of every month) regularly brings status-based transfer bonuses ranging from 25% to 125%. You earn Bilt points by paying rent, plus everyday spend on a Bilt card.

Capital One transfers at 2:1.5, meaning 1,000 Capital One miles become 750 JAL miles. Not great on paper — but Capital One runs transfer bonuses to JAL a few times a year that bring it close to 1:1. Not to mention, a single welcome bonus offer on one of these cards can get you enough to book a round-trip.

Step 3: Watch for transfer bonuses. This is the multiplier most people miss. A 30% Capital One bonus or a Bilt Rent Day bonus can mean the difference between booking your trip now and waiting six months to top off your balance. Bonuses come and go, so check before you transfer.

Step 4: Search for award availability before transferring. Transfers are irreversible. Confirm the seats exist on your dates first using JAL’s website or a tool like Seats.aero to scan availability across multiple airlines at once.

Step 5: Transfer and book. Once you’ve confirmed availability, move your points to JAL, wait for them to land (usually instant from Bilt and Rove, up to 24 hours from Capital One), and book directly on JAL’s website.

Emirates JFK–MXP is one of the best-kept secrets in award travel. You get the full Emirates A380 business class experience on a relatively short transatlantic flight, the award pricing through JAL is fixed and reasonable, and the taxes and fees are a fraction of what Emirates charges directly.
