The new Hyatt Aeroplan partnership is one of the more interesting loyalty tie ups we have seen this year, and it just rewrote the rules for anyone sitting on Air Canada Aeroplan points or World of Hyatt points.
As of July 15, 2026, the two programs let you link your accounts and move value between them, redeem one currency inside the other, and fast track your way to World of Hyatt elite status without setting foot on a plane.
Below is exactly what changed, the real math on whether the conversions are worth it, and who should skip the whole thing.
What Aeroplan and World of Hyatt Just Announced
Air Canada’s Aeroplan and World of Hyatt® announced a collaboration that spans earning, converting, redeeming, and status across both programs once you link your accounts. Hyatt frames it as more than 1,500 hotels meeting a network of over 1,300 flight destinations, which is marketing speak for a simple idea: your points now travel between the runway and the room key.
This is worth understanding clearly, because it is not a traditional transfer partnership in the Amex or Chase sense. You are not moving flexible bank points into a program at 1:1. You are linking two loyalty accounts and unlocking a specific set of cross program moves, most of which come with a catch. It is also notable that Hyatt already runs a similar collaboration with American Airlines AAdvantage, so the program is now bridging both a Oneworld and a Star Alliance carrier.
How to Link Your Aeroplan and World of Hyatt Accounts
Linking is the gate for everything else. You connect your Aeroplan and World of Hyatt accounts through Hyatt’s dedicated Aeroplan page, and once the two are tied together you can start earning across programs, converting points, redeeming one currency for the other, and registering for the status benefits. If you hold both memberships already, this takes a couple of minutes and unlocks the rest of the partnership.
New Ways to Redeem Across Both Programs
The headline redemptions run in both directions. Aeroplan members can now redeem Aeroplan points for World of Hyatt Free Night Awards, covering both Category 1-4 and Category 1-7 Free Night Awards, starting at 25,000 Aeroplan points for the Category 1-4 award. Going the other way, World of Hyatt members can redeem points for a 30,000 point Aeroplan flight reward certificate that works toward flights on Air Canada and its partners.
On the numbers we do have, 25,000 Aeroplan points for a Category 1-4 free night is a situational play at best. Third party estimates put Aeroplan points around 1.4 cents each for typical redemptions, so you are spending roughly $350 of Aeroplan value on that night. That only clears Aeroplan’s own value bar if the hotel’s cash rate is genuinely high, which most Category 1-4 properties are not. If you have a stranded Aeroplan balance and a Category 4 hotel running well above $300 a night, it can make sense. As a default, it usually will not.
Converting Points Between Aeroplan and World of Hyatt (With the Real Math)
Both programs now let you convert, and both directions move at 2:1 against you. Any linked member can convert World of Hyatt points to Aeroplan points at two Hyatt points for one Aeroplan point, starting at 5,000 points and in 1,000 point increments after that. Linked Aeroplan Elite Status members get an exclusive move in reverse, converting Aeroplan points to World of Hyatt Bonus Points at the same 2:1 ratio, with a 500 point minimum and caps of 100,000 Aeroplan points per day or 250,000 per week.
The 2:1 ratio is the whole story. Converting World of Hyatt points to Aeroplan means handing over two of the most valuable hotel points in the game, estimated around 1.7 cents each, to receive one Aeroplan point worth roughly 1.4 cents. You give up more than half your value in the trade. The Elite only reverse conversion is less brutal but still a loss, since two Aeroplan points worth about 2.8 cents combined buy you one Hyatt point worth about 1.7 cents. The takeaway is simple. These conversions are top off tools, not value plays. Use them only to close the final gap on an award you cannot otherwise book, and never as a way to shuffle a balance around for its own sake. Redeeming each currency inside its own program will almost always beat converting.
Earning World of Hyatt Points on Aeroplan Cards (Canada Only)
There is a genuine earning perk here, but it is ring fenced to Canada. Aeroplan credit cardholders with cards issued in Canada can earn both World of Hyatt Bonus Points and extra Aeroplan points on stays at participating Hyatt hotels once their accounts are linked, at the rates in the earning table below. If you hold a US issued card, these multipliers do not apply to you, so set expectations accordingly.
One earning option is open to any Aeroplan member regardless of card. On an eligible Hyatt stay you can elect to earn 500 Aeroplan points per stay in lieu of your World of Hyatt base points. Run this one before you opt in. A World of Hyatt member earns 5 base points per eligible dollar, so even a modest $150 stay throws off 750 Hyatt points worth roughly $13 at estimate, versus 500 Aeroplan points worth around $7. Taking the Aeroplan points only makes sense on very cheap stays or when you specifically need Aeroplan over Hyatt.
The Real Story: The World of Hyatt Status Fast Track
This is the part actually worth getting excited about. Aeroplan Elite Status members and eligible premium cardholders can now unlock World of Hyatt status through an annual 90 day challenge, earning Discoverist with 4 nights, Explorist with 10 nights, and Globalist with 20 nights. Twenty nights to Globalist is one of the faster routes to Hyatt’s top tier, and Globalist is where the real perks live, including free breakfast for up to four people, room upgrades as available, and 4:00 PM late checkout.
Aeroplan premium cardholders get even more. They receive complimentary World of Hyatt Discoverist status with 2:00 PM late checkout and elite check in, five Tier Qualifying Night credits each calendar year to jump start the climb, and two attempts per year at the 90 day status challenge. That second challenge attempt is quietly the best part, because it gives you two separate windows to hit Globalist in a single year.
World of Hyatt members get a lighter set of benefits going the other way. Discoverists, Explorists, and Globalists receive a $20 CAD Air Canada flight credit each year after linking, and later in 2026 Explorists and Globalists will be able to register for challenges to fast track their way to Aeroplan Elite Status.
