Chase Freedom categories for Q2 2026 just dropped, and this is one of the strongest quarters in recent memory. Amazon is back as a bonus category, which means 5x points on everything from Prime subscriptions to Whole Foods groceries. If you have a Chase Freedom Flex (or the legacy Chase Freedom card), here’s exactly what qualifies, how to activate, and how to squeeze maximum value out of this quarter’s categories.
What Are the Chase Freedom Q2 2026 Categories?
From April 1 through June 30, 2026, Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex cardholders earn 5% cash back (or 5x Ultimate Rewards points) on up to $1,500 in combined purchases across these categories:
Amazon — This includes everything on Amazon.com: regular purchases, digital downloads, Amazon Gift Cards, Amazon Fresh orders, Amazon Prime subscriptions, and items sold by third-party sellers through Amazon’s marketplace.
Whole Foods Market — Falls under the Amazon category. Physical Whole Foods stores and wholefoodsmarket.com both qualify.
Chase Travel — Flights, hotels, rental cars, and activities booked through the Chase Travel portal. This stacks on top of the Freedom Flex’s standard 5x on Chase Travel, meaning you could earn up to 9x total on Chase Travel bookings this quarter.
Feeding America — Donations to Feeding America qualify for the 5x bonus.
After $1,500 in combined spending across all four categories, everything drops back to 1x (except dining and drugstores, which continue earning 3x on the Freedom Flex).
How to Activate Chase Freedom Q2 Categories
You must activate before June 14, 2026. If you activate after the quarter starts, your rewards are applied retroactively to purchases from April 1, so there’s no penalty for activating late — just don’t forget entirely.
- Log into your Chase account (app or website)
- Select your Freedom or Freedom Flex card
- Click Activate Now on the Q2 bonus categories banner
- Done. You only need to activate once per quarter.
If you use CardPointers, your Chase Offers (including category activations) sync automatically so you never miss a quarter.
How to Maximize Chase Freedom Q2 Categories
$1,500 in combined spending earns you $75 in cash back or 7,500 Ultimate Rewards points. Here’s how to hit that cap quickly and get full value.
Amazon: Front-Load Your Spending
Amazon is the easiest category to max out because most people already buy there regularly. A few ways to accelerate it:
Buy Amazon Gift Cards with your Freedom Flex. Gift card purchases at Amazon.com count toward the 5x bonus. Load up during Q2 and use the gift cards throughout the year. This effectively locks in 5x earnings on future Amazon spending beyond the quarter.
Time bigger purchases for Q2. If you’ve been eyeing electronics, home goods, or anything else on Amazon, wait until April 1 to buy. Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods count. Groceries through Amazon’s ecosystem all earn 5x this quarter.
Chase Travel: Stack the Multipliers
The Freedom Flex already earns 5x on Chase Travel purchases year-round. This quarter’s bonus stacks on top, potentially giving you up to 9x on Chase Travel bookings. If you have any trips coming up in Q2, booking through Chase Travel with your Freedom Flex is the play.
This is especially valuable if you pair the Freedom Flex with a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve. The Sapphire cards let you transfer Ultimate Rewards points to airline and hotel partners, where they’re worth significantly more than 1 cent each.
The Sapphire + Freedom Flex Combo
This is the real power move that most people miss. The Freedom Flex earns cash back by default. But if you also hold a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve, you can combine your Freedom Flex points into your Sapphire account. Those points then become transferable Ultimate Rewards points worth 2-5 cents each when transferred to airlines. So your 7,500 points from maxing the quarterly bonus aren’t worth $75 — they’re worth $150-$375 in airline value depending on how you redeem them. That’s a meaningful amount of points from a card with no annual fee.
If you don’t have a Sapphire card yet, the Chase Sapphire Preferred is the most popular pairing. $95/year and it unlocks the full value of every point your Freedom Flex earns.
Q1 2026 Categories (Ending March 31)
If you activated Q1, you can still earn 5x on these categories through March 31, 2026:
- Dining — Stacked with the Freedom Flex’s base 3x for a total of 8x on dining
- Norwegian Cruise Line
- American Heart Association donations
You can have both Q1 and Q2 activated at the same time during the overlap period. Q1 categories earn 5x through March 31, and Q2 categories start earning April 1.

Don’t Forget to Pair It
The Chase Freedom Flex is a powerful card on its own, but it’s even better as part of a Chase ecosystem.
Here’s how the cards work together:
Freedom Flex (no annual fee) earns 5x in quarterly bonus categories plus 3x on dining and drugstores. This is your earning card.
Sapphire Preferred ($95/year) or
Sapphire Reserve ($550/year) unlocks transfers to airline and hotel partners. This is your redemption card. Combine the points from your Freedom Flex into your Sapphire account, transfer to partners like United, Hyatt, or Southwest, and your quarterly bonus points are suddenly worth 2-5x more than cash back.
