The Chase Sapphire Reserve Marriott Gold Elite status offer is back for 2026, and it is one of the easiest hotel status grabs of the year. Register between July 1 and September 30, 2026, and you will receive complimentary Marriott Bonvoy® Gold Elite status for three months. Stay three qualifying paid nights during that window and your status extends all the way through February 2028.
This is an annual promotion that Chase and Marriott have run for several years now, and the 2026 version follows the same playbook. It costs nothing to register, so for most eligible cardholders this is a no-brainer. Whether you should chase the extension is a different question, and I will get to that below.
What Is the Chase Marriott Gold Status Offer?
The Chase Marriott Gold promotion gives Chase Sapphire Reserve® and J.P. Morgan Reserve® cardmembers three free months of Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status. Participation is by invitation, and registration requests go through Chase, not Marriott.
You register between July 1 and September 30, 2026. Your Gold Elite status kicks in once your registration is processed, which typically takes up to three business days, and runs for three months from that date. If you complete three qualifying paid nights during those three months, your Gold status locks in through February 2028. If you do not, you drop back to whatever tier your actual qualifying nights for the calendar year would earn you.
One important eligibility note: if you already have Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status or higher, you are not eligible for this promotion. This offer is aimed squarely at cardholders who have little or no existing Marriott status.
How to Register for the Chase Sapphire Reserve Marriott Offer
Registration happens through your Chase account, not through Marriott. Log in to your Chase Ultimate Rewards® account, select your Chase Sapphire Reserve card, and navigate to Card Benefits. You will see the Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status benefit listed there, where you can enter your Marriott Bonvoy number to register. Chase also has a direct registration page for the promotion once you are logged in.
You will need a valid Marriott Bonvoy number to register. If you are not yet a Bonvoy member, enroll first, then come back and submit your registration through Chase with your new membership number.
Most registration requests are completed within three business days, and your Gold status should appear in your Marriott account shortly after.
How to Extend Gold Status Through February 2028
The extension is where the fine print matters, because Marriott is strict about what counts as a qualifying night. You need three paid nights on qualifying rates, completed within your three-month status window, and the following rules apply.
Your nights must be booked directly through Marriott channels, meaning Marriott.com, the Marriott app, the hotel itself, or Marriott’s customer engagement centers. Bookings through Expedia, Booking.com, Priceline, or any other third-party channel do not count. Critically, bookings made through the Chase Travel portal also do not count, which catches people off guard every year. Booking through Chase Travel to use your travel credit will not earn you the extension.
Award nights and complimentary stays do not count either. These must be paid nights on qualifying rates. Only one room per hotel counts toward your total, so booking three rooms for one night will not get you there. And nights stayed before your registration date are not eligible, so do not register after a Marriott stay expecting retroactive credit.
Stays at Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott Executive Apartments, and Marriott Vacation Club owner-occupied weeks are excluded as well.
What Marriott Gold Elite Status Actually Gets You
Honest assessment: Gold is a mid-tier status, and its benefits are modest. You get 2pm late checkout, a 25% points bonus on stays, complimentary enhanced Wi-Fi, and room upgrades to non-suite rooms when available. That late checkout is genuinely useful, and the points bonus adds up if you stay with Marriott regularly.
What Gold does not get you is free breakfast or executive lounge access. Those benefits start at Platinum Elite, which requires 50 qualifying nights per year. This promotion also does not award any Elite Night Credits, so it does not fast-track you toward Platinum. You are getting Gold, full stop.
The Registration Timing Trick
Because your three-month status clock starts when your registration is processed, timing matters if you want the extension. If you have Marriott stays planned for October or November, consider waiting until late September to register so those nights fall inside your qualifying window. Registering on July 1 only makes sense if your paid Marriott stays are happening this summer.
If you have no paid Marriott stays on the calendar at all, register whenever you like. The three free months cost you nothing either way.
Who Should Skip This
If you already hold Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status or higher, you are ineligible, so this offer is not for you. If you carry The Platinum Card® from American Express or The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, you already have access to Marriott Gold as an ongoing card benefit with enrollment, which makes this three-month trial redundant.
You should also skip the extension math if it means manufacturing paid stays you would not otherwise take. Three paid nights at a Marriott property could easily run $500 or more, and spending that solely to hold a status tier without free breakfast is not a trade I would make. Register for the free months, enjoy the late checkout if a Marriott stay happens naturally, and let the rest go.
If you have paid Marriott nights already planned before the end of your three-month window, though, this is free status through February 2028 for doing exactly what you were going to do anyway. That is an easy yes.
