The Emirates new premium economy seat is official, and it moves the category closer to what business class looked like a generation ago. The seat debuts on newly delivered Airbus A350s and headlines with something genuinely novel: a full-height privacy screen between every seat that raises, lowers, and locks electrically from the seat controls. Add fully electric seat adjustment, wireless charging, and a cradle recline that never touches the knees behind you, and this is the most interesting premium economy announcement of the year.

Emirates only launched premium economy in 2022, which makes the pace here notable. Most airlines ride a seat generation for a decade. Emirates is replacing its first attempt before it has even finished installing it fleetwide.

What Is Actually New

The cabin itself stays intimate. On the A350, premium economy consists of 28 seats across four rows in a 2-3-2 configuration. Seats are 20 inches wide with up to 39 inches of pitch, and they recline into a cradle position contained entirely within your own space, so nobody’s dinner tray becomes collateral damage.

The privacy screen is the headline. It extends to the full height of the seat, and you can raise it, lower it, or lock it anywhere in between using the seat controls. Traveling solo next to a stranger, wall up. Traveling with a partner, wall down. Fixed dividers have always been premium economy’s awkward compromise, so making it adjustable is the right call, not just a flashy one.

The seat is also fully electrically powered, adjusted through an integrated Passenger Control Unit with preset positions including a lounge mode and a meal mode. Emirates is pairing that with its leather U-Dream headrest by Safran Seats, which has adjustable wings for neck support, plus a manually deployable leather footrest.

Power and screens get attention too. Wireless charging comes to Emirates premium economy for the first time, alongside USB-C at every seat and a tray table with an integrated phone holder for second-screen use. Entertainment runs on a 13.3-inch 4K HDR touchscreen, and newly delivered A350s add left and right exterior camera views to the existing forward and downward feeds.

About That World’s First Claim

Emirates is calling this the world’s first electric premium economy seat with a full-height privacy screen, and the wording is doing careful work. Japan Airlines already flies motorized premium economy seats with full-height dividers on its A350s. The distinction is that JAL’s divider is manual, while Emirates’ privacy screen is itself electrically controlled. So the electric divider is the genuine first. The seat overall is best understood as Emirates catching up to, and then edging past, what JAL pioneered, with the U-Dream headrest and wireless charging sweetening the package.

Where and When You Will Find It

The new seat arrives on newly delivered A350s. Emirates will fly two different premium economy products side by side for years, so checking your aircraft type before booking will matter if the new seat is the draw.

The soft product carries over the parts that already worked. Meals come on Royal Doulton china with Robert Welch cutlery, and premium economy pours Chandon Vintage Brut 2021, a sparkling wine exclusive to the cabin. From September, select routes add a Chablis Premier Cru and a Pessac-Léognan red, and in October Emirates introduces its first English sparkling wine, Wiston Estate Brut NV, exclusively in premium economy on UK routes. Long-haul flights include amenity kits with Aveda skincare, a first for this cabin.

How to Book Emirates Premium Economy With Points

Emirates Skywards is the direct route, and premium economy awards carry none of the elite-status restrictions that now gate Emirates first class. The catch in 2026 is getting miles into Skywards efficiently, because the transfer landscape deteriorated badly over the past year.

Bilt is now the only major program transferring to Emirates at 1:1. Amex Membership Rewards and premium Citi ThankYou cards both moved to 5:4, and Capital One devalued to 4:3 in January 2026. Marriott Bonvoy transfers at 3:1 with the usual 5,000-mile bonus per 60,000 points moved. The full table is below. Run the math before you transfer, because a 5:4 or 4:3 haircut on top of Skywards pricing can quietly turn a decent redemption into a mediocre one, and transfers cannot be reversed.

The workaround worth knowing: partner programs like Qantas Frequent Flyer can also book Emirates flights, and Qantas remains a 1:1 transfer partner from several major currencies. Pricing and availability differ from Skywards, so compare both before committing points anywhere.

Final Thoughts

The Emirates new premium economy seat is a real step forward for the cabin class, even once you trim the marketing language down to the actual first, which is the electric full-height privacy screen. The frustrating part is the same one that follows every Emirates hard-product announcement: fleet fragmentation means the seat you see in the press release and the seat you board can be years apart. If the A350 is on your route, this looks like one of the best premium economy products flying. Just verify the metal before you celebrate.
