A Marriott upgrade list is now showing up inside the Marriott Bonvoy app, telling elite members how many complimentary upgrades a hotel expects to have and where they sit in line for one. I saw the feature live at Members Day on October 12, 2026, and it works a lot like the upgrade list you already check at the gate before a flight.
Right now it is only active at certain hotels, so most members will not see it on their next stay. There is no published list of participating properties yet, and the details below could change as it expands. Still, it is the most visibility Marriott has ever given into a process that has always happened behind the front desk.
What The Marriott Upgrade List Shows
Close to your arrival date, the app displays a section called “Your Complimentary Upgrade Status.” It gives two numbers: the estimated count of upgrades available for your stay, and your current position in line. In the screenshot that surfaced, the member saw zero upgrades available and a position of number two.
The app also says it will let you know one day before arrival if your complimentary upgrade is confirmed. The fine print adds that the estimate reflects rooms matching your booked stay dates and bed type.
Who Gets Complimentary Upgrades At Marriott
Complimentary upgrades are a space-available benefit for Marriott Bonvoy elite members, and they get meaningfully better at Platinum Elite and above, where select suites enter the mix. Marriott has not said which tiers will see the new screen during the beta.
The order is not a simple status ranking either. Marriott already assigns upgrades with an automated system that weighs your elite level, the details of your stay, and a proprietary score for each guest. Two Platinum members on the same night can land in very different spots.
How To Use The Marriott Upgrade List Right Now
If the screen appears in your app, read it as a rough signal instead of a promise. A low position with several upgrades available is encouraging, yet it still says nothing about the room type, so compare it against what the hotel is selling for your dates. If suites are still bookable and the list shows upgrades available, you have something concrete to mention politely at check-in.
When a specific room matters, such as an anniversary trip or a stay where you need the space, the dependable move has not changed. Apply Nightly Upgrade Awards if you have them, or book the room you want outright. Complimentary upgrades have always been a bonus when timing works out, and results will vary by property, season, and how many other elites are in house.
Bottom Line
The Marriott upgrade list is a small step toward transparency, which was a big theme during the Members Day event, in a program where upgrades have felt like a black box. In its current form it is too thin to plan around, because a count and a rank mean little without knowing which rooms are in the pool. I will update this post if Marriott confirms the feature or expands it.
