Bilt Cash redemptions expanded three separate times in the span of eight days this August, and the currency now covers helicopter seats, chauffeured cars, and Equinox spa treatments — on top of the rent and mortgage job it was originally built to do.
If you set your Bilt account up back in January and haven’t opened the Wallet tab since, the list looks nothing like it did. Some of these credits are genuinely excellent. A few are small enough that you’ll forget they exist and lose them at the end of the month. Here’s the full picture: what Bilt Cash is, every way to earn it, every place you can spend it right now, and which ones are actually worth your attention.
What Bilt Cash Actually Is
Bilt Cash is a fixed-value currency that sits alongside Bilt Points in your account, and the two do completely different jobs.
Bilt Points are transferable. They move to airline and hotel partners, they fluctuate in value depending on how well you redeem them, and they’re the reason most people signed up for Bilt in the first place.
Bilt Cash doesn’t transfer anywhere. It’s pegged at $1 = $1 and it works by unlocking specific credits with specific partners. You can’t withdraw it, you can’t convert it to a statement credit, and you can’t spend it wherever you want. Think of it less like a cash balance and more like vouchers.
That sounds like a limitation, and sometimes it is. But because the credits are fixed-dollar, you always know exactly what your Bilt Cash is worth — which is more than you can say for most points currencies.
Everything lives in the Wallet tab in the Bilt app or on the website. That’s where you’ll see your balance, which credits are available, what’s already been used, and when each one resets.
How to Earn Bilt Cash
There are three ways in:
Elite status milestones — $50 per 25,000 points
Every member earns $50 in Bilt Cash for every 25,000 Bilt Points earned toward elite status. This is the baseline.
It also means status chasing and Bilt Cash earning are the same activity. If you’re already pushing toward Silver or Gold, you’re generating Bilt Cash as a byproduct without doing anything extra.
The 4% cardholder election
This is the piece that gets confused constantly, so let’s be clear: the 4% back in Bilt Cash is earned in addition to your card’s base points, not instead of them. You are not trading points away. Yes, it sounds too good to be true. But also yes, it is absolutely how it works.
Bilt cardholders choose between two bonus structures. Option one is Flexible Bilt Cash — 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday purchases, layered on top of whatever points your card already earns. Option two is housing-only rewards — skip the Bilt Cash entirely and earn multiplied points on your rent or mortgage based on your everyday spending activity.
For most people, Bilt Cash is the way to go, but always do the math for your specific situation. You can change this each month, so you’re not locked into your first choice forever.
Base points rates stay the same either way:
- Bilt Blue: 1X on everyday purchases
- Bilt Obsidian: 3X on your chosen category (dining or groceries, capped at $25,000/year), 2X travel, 1X everything else
- Bilt Palladium: 2X on everyday purchases, unlimited
So a Palladium cardholder on the Flexible Bilt Cash structure is earning 2X Bilt Points per dollar plus 4% back in Bilt Cash on the same purchase. On a $1,000 month of everyday spend, that’s 2,000 Bilt Points and $40 in Bilt Cash.
Welcome bonuses
All three cards come with Bilt Cash out of the gate:
- Bilt Blue (no annual fee): $100
- Bilt Obsidian ($95/year): $200
- Bilt Palladium ($495/year): $300, plus $200 in Bilt Cash every year after
That recurring $200 on the Palladium is an annual deposit, not a one-time bonus, and it covers a meaningful chunk of the card’s fee before you touch any other benefit.
Using Bilt Cash for Rent and Mortgage Points
This is what Bilt Cash was built for, and it’s still the reason most people carry a Bilt card at all.
If you’ve selected the Flexible Bilt Cash earning structure, your housing payment doesn’t earn points on its own. You unlock them. Every $30 in Bilt Cash you redeem earns 1,000 Bilt Points on rent or mortgage, with no transaction fee. No Bilt Cash redeemed means no points on that payment.
The unlock is capped at 1X of your monthly housing payment. A $2,500 rent payment can generate a maximum of 2,500 points, and getting all of them takes $75 in Bilt Cash. You can’t overshoot the cap to bank extra points, and you can’t apply last month’s leftover to this month’s ceiling.
It isn’t limited to rent and mortgage, either. Mortgage payments, HOA fees, and utilities tied to your home all qualify — worth checking if you own, because HOA dues alone can add a few hundred points a month you’d otherwise leave behind.
What It Takes to Cover Your Full Payment
Because you earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday purchases, covering your entire housing payment requires everyday spending equal to roughly 75% of that payment every month.
For most people that’s the whole story in one line: if your rent is $2,500, you need about $1,875 a month on the card to unlock the full 2,500 points. If you spend less than that, you unlock proportionally fewer points.
It’s Not All or Nothing
There’s no minimum, no commitment, and no penalty for partial coverage. Redeem $30 and get 1,000 points. Redeem $90 and get 3,000. Do it one month and skip the next.
So if you’re sitting on $45 in Bilt Cash and your rent is $2,000, don’t wait until you can cover the whole thing. Take the 1,500 points. The alternative is watching that Bilt Cash expire on December 31.
If you’re weighing the two housing earning structures against each other, I broke down the full comparison in Bilt 2.0: Everything You Need to Know.
The Point Accelerator, Explained
The Point Accelerator is the least understood Bilt Cash redemption, and the only one that turns Bilt Cash into points on non-housing spending.
Here’s the mechanic: redeem $200 in Bilt Cash to earn an extra 1X on your next $5,000 of everyday spend. That’s 5,000 bonus points, on top of whatever your card already earns. You can activate it up to five times per year, which caps out at $1,000 in Bilt Cash for 25,000 bonus points.
It’s limited to Bilt Obsidian and Bilt Palladium cardholders. Blue is excluded.
What It Actually Does to Your Earning Rate
Palladium normally earns 2X on everything. With an accelerator running, that becomes 3X on all everyday spend — and 3X flat on everything is a genuinely strong rate, better than what most premium cards offer outside bonus categories.
Obsidian normally earns 3X in your chosen category, 2X travel, 1X everything else. An accelerator lifts each of those by one: 4X on dining or groceries, 3X travel, 2X on everything else until the $5,000 is spent.
The bonus expires when you hit $5,000 in spend or at calendar year-end, whichever comes first. If you activate in November and only spend $2,000 before December 31, the rest evaporates.
The First One Is Effectively Free
Both Obsidian and Palladium come with an annual Bilt Cash deposit — $200 for Palladium, and Obsidian cardholders receive Bilt Cash as part of their card benefits too. That deposit covers one full activation without touching the Bilt Cash you earned from spending.
If you’re going to run one accelerator a year, that’s the one to run. It costs you nothing you’d otherwise have used.
Should You Run More Than One?
Run the numbers and the accelerator is the weaker of the two points redemptions. $200 for 5,000 points is 4 cents per point. The housing unlock is 3 cents. Same currency, worse price.
So the order of operations is straightforward:
- Cover your housing unlock first. It’s the better rate and it’s capped, so there’s a natural ceiling.
- Take partner credits you’d have paid cash for anyway. Those hold full dollar value — better than either points redemption.
- Then consider a second accelerator, and only if you’ll reliably spend the full $5,000 before year-end.
The exception is if your everyday spending substantially exceeds your housing payment. If you’re putting $6,000 a month on the card against $1,800 rent, your housing unlock maxes out fast and the surplus Bilt Cash has to go somewhere. That’s when stacking accelerators starts to make sense.
I went deeper on this trade-off — with the full scenario math — in Bilt’s Point Accelerator Might Actually Be Worth It.
Three New Bilt Cash Redemptions, All in August 2026
The catalog got noticeably more interesting in the second half of this month.
Blacklane — chauffeured car service (launched August 21)
Bilt members can now book Blacklane’s premium chauffeured car service directly through the Bilt Concierge or the Bilt Travel Portal. Airport transfers, city-to-city rides, and hourly bookings, in more than 60 countries.
Every ride booked through Bilt earns 1X Bilt Points, on top of whatever your linked card earns. You can pay with points, a linked card, Bilt Cash, or any combination of the three.
The Bilt Cash credit is annual and status-based:
- Platinum: up to $150
- Gold: up to $100
- Blue and Silver: up to $50
Credits run on a calendar-year cycle, January 1 through December 31, and reset each year. You can also attach a Blacklane ride to a trip you’ve already booked in the Travel Portal rather than booking it standalone, which is the part that actually makes this convenient.
BLADE — helicopter seats (launched August 13)
The BLADE partnership is the biggest single credit in the entire Bilt Cash catalog. Members can redeem up to $350 per seat, for up to two seats per calendar year — $700 in total value.
Booking happens entirely inside the Bilt Travel Portal now, and you can pay with Bilt Points, Bilt Cash, a linked card, or a mix. The credit covers the seat only; luggage and other incidentals aren’t included, and unused portions don’t roll into your next booking. It resets January 1.
Existing BLADE perks stack on top: 2X Bilt Points for all members, a 10% discount for Silver and above, lounge access for Gold and Platinum, and one complimentary annual flight for Platinum.
Equinox — spa, training, and Pilates (launched August 20)
The newest addition, and the one with the most fine print. Bilt Cash can be redeemed for Equinox credits toward spa treatments, personal training sessions, and Studio Pilates classes.
Credit amounts by status:
- Gold and Platinum: $150
- Silver: $100
- Blue: $75
| Status | Blacklaneper year | BLADEper year | Equinoxper half-year (annual total) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue | $50 | $700 | $75 ($150) |
| Silver | $50 | $700 | $100 ($200) |
| Gold | $100 | $700 | $150 ($300) |
| Platinum | $150 | $700 | $150 ($300) |
This one runs on a half-year cycle — one redemption between January 1 and June 30, and another between July 1 and December 31. So a Gold member is looking at $300 a year, not $150.
Three things to know before you get excited. You have to be an Equinox member to redeem. There’s a $50 minimumredemption. And the credit cannot be applied to membership dues — only to the eligible services above. Once redeemed, the credit expires at the end of that half-year window, so a credit pulled on January 3 is gone June 30.
One useful wrinkle: if your status increases mid-period and you haven’t redeemed yet, you get the higher amount for that period. Worth waiting if you’re close to a tier bump.

What Expires and What Rolls Over
This is the part worth getting right, because forfeited credits are the single biggest leak in the system.
Monthly credits reset at midnight PT (3:00 a.m. ET) on the 1st of each month and do not roll over. If you don’t use your $10 Lyft credit in August, it’s gone on September 1. Same for parking, Walgreens, Grubhub, and the rest.
Anything marked “up to” forfeits the unused portion. A $25 restaurant credit used on a $14 meal loses the remaining $11.
Your Bilt Cash balance itself expires December 31 — but up to $100 of unused Bilt Cash automatically rolls into the next year. Anything above $100 disappears.
Authorized users have their own separate limits, which is genuinely useful if you’re running a household on one account.
The practical takeaway: the monthly credits are use-it-or-lose-it and they’re small enough to forget. Set a recurring reminder for the last week of the month and sweep whatever’s left in the Wallet tab.
How to Redeem Bilt Cash
The flow is the same regardless of partner:
- Open the Bilt app or website and go to the Wallet tab
- Find the credit you want — each one shows the amount available, the reset date, and instructions
- Follow through to the partner (Travel Portal for hotels, BLADE, and Blacklane; Concierge for car service; promo codes for Grubhub and similar)
- At checkout, choose Bilt Points, Bilt Cash, a linked card, or any combination
- For Blacklane and BLADE specifically, you’ll still earn Bilt Points on the booking even when paying with Bilt Cash
For Blacklane, the shortest path is: open the Bilt Concierge or Travel Portal → Rewards tab → Car Service → book → apply your credit at checkout.
Which Bilt Cash Redemptions Are Worth Prioritizing
Not all of these deserve equal attention. Ranked by how much value they actually move:
Tier one — go out of your way for these. BLADE at $700 a year is the largest credit in the catalog by a wide margin. Travel Portal hotel credits at $100/month for Gold and Platinum add up to $1,200 annually if you travel with any regularity. And the housing payment offset, if you’re carrying a meaningful rent or mortgage payment, is the entire reason the system exists.
Tier two — worth it if you’re already a customer. Equinox at $300 a year for Gold and Platinum is real money, but only if you’re already paying for a membership. Blacklane at $150 is solid for Platinum members who take airport transfers anyway. Dining experiences and restaurant credits fall here too.
Tier three — sweep them if it’s easy. Lyft, Walgreens, Grubhub, parking, home delivery. Individually they’re $5 to $10 a month. Collectively they’re several hundred dollars a year, but only if you’re disciplined about it, and they’re not worth restructuring your habits around.
One value note on BLADE specifically: Bilt Points redeem at 1.25 cents each through the Travel Portal, while the points themselves are generally valued closer to 1.8–2.0 cents. If you’re deciding between paying with Bilt Cash or Bilt Points, use the Bilt Cash. It’s fixed-value either way, and you preserve the points for a transfer redemption where they’re worth more.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Bilt Cash and how does it work?
Bilt Cash is a fixed-value currency inside your Bilt account, separate from Bilt Points. It’s pegged at $1 = $1 and works by unlocking specific credits with partner brands, plus points on your rent or mortgage. You can’t withdraw it or spend it freely — it only works where Bilt says it works.
What does Bilt Cash do?
Two things. It unlocks Bilt Points on housing payments with no transaction fee, and it funds a catalog of partner credits covering hotels, BLADE, Blacklane, Equinox, Lyft, dining, Walgreens, and more. Everything lives in the Wallet tab in the Bilt app.
What is Bilt Cash worth?
Face value is $1 per $1 — it doesn’t fluctuate like points do. Real-world value depends on what you redeem it for. At $30 for 1,000 rent points, you’re buying points at 3 cents each, which is a poor rate. Spent on BLADE ($700/year), hotel credits (up to $1,200/year), or Equinox (up to $300/year), it holds full dollar value. Redeem for partner credits you’d have paid cash for anyway and it’s worth exactly face.
What is Bilt Cash vs Bilt Points?
Bilt Points are transferable — they move to airline and hotel partners and their value swings based on how well you redeem. Bilt Cash is fixed at $1 and transfers nowhere. Points are the flexible currency; Bilt Cash is the credit-unlocking one.
How is Bilt Cash earned?
Three ways. Every member earns $50 in Bilt Cash per 25,000 Bilt Points earned toward elite status, cardholder or not. Cardholders on the Flexible Bilt Cash structure earn 4% back on everyday purchases on top of their base points. And all three cards come with a Bilt Cash welcome bonus, with Palladium adding $200 every year after.
How much Bilt Cash do you need for rent?
$30 in Bilt Cash unlocks 1,000 Bilt Points on rent or mortgage with no transaction fee. For a $2,500 payment, unlocking the full 2,500 points takes $75 in Bilt Cash. There’s no minimum and no all-or-nothing rule — unlock 1,000 points one month and 3,000 the next if that’s what you have.
How much Bilt Cash for a mortgage payment?
The same rate applies to mortgages as to rent: $30 unlocks 1,000 points, no transaction fee. Multiply by your payment size to find your target. A $3,000 mortgage takes $90 in Bilt Cash to fully unlock.
How much Bilt Cash rolls over?
Up to $100 of unused Bilt Cash automatically rolls into the next year. Anything above $100 in your balance expires December 31 and is gone. Monthly credits are separate — those never roll over at all.
When does Bilt Cash expire?
Your Bilt Cash balance expires December 31 annually, with up to $100 carrying forward. Monthly credits expire on the last day of each month. Equinox credits expire at the end of their half-year window — June 30 or December 31 — and BLADE and Blacklane credits run on the calendar year.
Can Bilt Cash be used for travel?
Yes, and it’s where the biggest credits are. Travel Portal hotel bookings take up to $100 a month for Gold and Platinum members, BLADE seats take up to $350 each for two seats a year, and Blacklane car service takes up to $150 a year depending on status.
Can Bilt Cash be used for hotels?
Yes. Hotel bookings through the Bilt Travel Portal are one of the largest recurring credits: $50 a month for Blue and Silver members, $100 a month for Gold and Platinum — up to $1,200 a year at the top tier.
Can Bilt Cash be used for flights?
Not for commercial airfare. The Travel Portal’s Bilt Cash credit covers hotels, not plane tickets. The one flight redemption is BLADE — $350 per seat, up to two seats per calendar year. For commercial flights, pay with Bilt Points or a linked card.
Can Bilt Cash be converted to points?
Only through the housing unlock. $30 of Bilt Cash converts to 1,000 Bilt Points on a rent or mortgage payment, which works out to 3 cents per point — a bad rate if you’re doing it purely to build a points balance. There’s no general-purpose Bilt Cash to Bilt Points conversion.
Can Bilt Cash be used as a statement credit?
No. Bilt Cash can’t be cashed out, withdrawn, or applied to your card balance. It only works through the partner credits and the housing points unlock.
How do I check my Bilt Cash balance?
Open the Wallet tab in the Bilt app or on the Bilt website. It shows your total balance, every credit available to you, what’s already been used, and the reset date for each one.
When should you use Bilt Cash?
Sweep the monthly credits before the 1st, since they vanish. Prioritize the largest annual credits — BLADE, Equinox, Blacklane — before December 31. Use the housing unlock only with Bilt Cash you won’t otherwise spend, since 3 cents per point is a weak conversion. And keep no more than $100 in your balance heading into year-end.
