The Rove app is officially live on iOS, and it arrives alongside the biggest platform expansion Rove has launched since it started — a restaurant rewards program, gift cards that credit miles instantly, in-store shopping offers, redesigned browser extensions, and a hotel booking engine built from scratch.

If you’re new to Rove, start with my full Rove Miles guide — it covers how the program works, what the miles are worth, and how to book with them. This post is about what just changed.

What the Rove app actually does

The app pulls everything Rove does into one place on your phone: your Rove Miles balance, available earning opportunities, gift card purchases, participating restaurants, shopping, and flight and hotel bookings. Account management lives there too, so you’re no longer bouncing between a browser and an extension to track what you’ve earned.

An Android public beta is open now as well, so you’re not locked out if you’re not on iOS.

Rove has also said the app is the foundation for a more personalized experience — surfacing earning opportunities based on what you actually book and buy, rather than showing everyone the same list. That’s a meaningful difference over time, since the value of a shopping portal usually comes down to whether you notice the offer before you check out.

Rove Dining: miles at thousands of restaurants

Rove Dining lets you earn Rove Miles at participating restaurants with genuinely aggressive earn rates.

The mechanics are as simple as these programs get: link an eligible payment card to your Rove account, pick a participating restaurant, and pay with that card like normal. Pending miles land in your account automatically and post within about a week.

No coupon to present. No activation. No promo code. No receipt to upload. If you’ve ever used an airline dining program and gotten burned by forgetting to activate, this is the version that fixes it.

It’s launching in select cities first and expanding nationwide from there, so check the app for your area before you plan around it.

Instant-earning gift cards

Rove’s new gift card marketplace lets you buy eligible gift cards from participating brands and get your Rove Miles instantly.

The obvious use is earning on purchases you were already making. The more interesting use is topping off a redemption. Say you find award space on a flight you want and you’re 4,000 miles short. Normally you’re stuck — shopping portal miles take weeks to post, and the seat is gone by then. With this, you buy an eligible gift card through Rove, the miles hit immediately, and you book. That’s a real gap in most rewards programs, and closing it is a bigger deal than it sounds.

More brands and categories are being added.

The hotel platform got rebuilt

Rove Hotels got its largest overhaul yet: stronger earning, tens of thousands of additional properties, and a big expansion of Loyalty Eligible rates.

Loyalty Eligible is the piece worth understanding. It lets you earn Rove Miles on a booking while still remaining eligible for benefits through the hotel’s own loyalty program — depending on the property, rate, and program, that can include hotel points, elite night credits, and status recognition. Rove now says it has roughly 99% hotel coverage within eligible chain properties, which is a dramatic jump.

The booking experience itself is cleaner too. Instead of scrolling through six near-identical listings for the same room, you pick a room and then add options — flexible cancellation, non-refundable, breakfast, half board, full board, all-inclusive. Some of those selections carry enhanced Rove Miles multipliers. You also finally get clear bed configuration info before you book, so you know whether you’re getting a king, two queens, twins, or a sofa bed.

The app adds an AI feature that answers property questions directly — amenities, pet policies, on-site restaurants, distance from the airport. Small, but it saves you a tab.

New extensions and in-store earning

There are new Chrome and Safari extensions, plus a mobile Safari extension tied to the iOS app. They surface available earning opportunities and apply coupon codes while you shop, so you don’t have to remember to start at Rove first — which is where most portal miles get lost. The update adds thousands more stores and thousands more coupon codes.

Rove is also rolling out in-store offers: earn Rove Miles at participating physical retailers after paying with an eligible linked card. That’s expected to expand to thousands of locations, with personalized higher-earning offers you can opt into.

My take

Rove’s whole pitch has been earning real travel currency without a travel credit card, and until now that mostly meant online shopping and booking through Rove. Dining, gift cards, and in-store offers are what turn it into something you interact with weekly instead of occasionally.

For context on why the currency is worth chasing: Rove members have redeemed well over a billion Rove Miles in the past year at more than double the average value of traditional credit card points — enough miles to put over 100,000 people in the air round-trip. And Rove Miles book flights on 140+ airlines and stays at hundreds of thousands of hotels, or transfer to select loyalty partners.
